In order to prevent students from engaging in “drug use” and other behaviors, a high school principal in Texas has decided to remove all bathroom doors.

The principal claims that students have been engaged in inappropriate behaviors of a sexual nature, as well as drug use. In order to prevent these occurrences from continuing, the doors have been removed from all bathrooms of Travis Early College High School in Austin.

The school principal, Christine Steele Hantgin, sent a letter to parents saying she made the decision in an attempt to prevent inappropriate behavior. She claims that students were doing things they would rather not have happening in the restrooms.

The letter reads “Ninety percent of our drug offenses this year have taken place in the restrooms. I believe part of creating a safe environment for students involves being proactive and supporting them to make better decisions. We have had no incidents in the restrooms since the removal of the doors,”

“My number one priority is safety. Removing the doors is one of many strategies we are planning or implementing to keep our campus a safe learning environment. We had great success with the start of our tardy policy this week,” the letter continues.

Steele said that since the removal of the bathroom doors, the number of activities has decreased. There have been no drugs or alcohol-related incidents in the restrooms since.
