Big L Fans Celebrate The Renaming Of Street In Harlem
Big L, the legendary New York rapper, has a street in his hometown of Harlem renamed after him. On Saturday, a large crowd of his devoted followers gathered on the street to commemorate the tribute.
After a lengthy petition drive by the producers of the Big L documentary, Street Stuck, the intersection of 140th and Lenox Avenue is now renamed “Lamont “Big L” Coleman Way.”
“It took a whole lot of effort and Support to get to this great point but as an collective we made it happen,” In an Instagram statement, the team said. “The Biggest Thank you’s go out to the Dope 500 plus people who signed and passed the petition around so we could get this street renamed. There are entirely tooo many good people that gave this their support, so with all my heart, I personally want to say THANK YOU!!!!”
Biggie is widely regarded as one of the best lyricists of all time, having influenced innumerable rappers’ careers. Funkmaster Flex has even compared him to Biggie and Jay-Z when it comes to lyric writing. When he was shot and killed in 1999, his career was cut short.
