J. Cole Praises Burna Boy as the ‘2Pac Reincarnated’

J. Cole recently placed Burna Boy in the same league as the legendary 2Pac. Burna Boy, who dropped his latest album, “I Told Them…” just last month, joined forces with Cole on the track “Thanks.”

In an enlightening chat on the Rap Radar Podcast, the Nigerian sensation shed light on his studio session with J. Cole, where the Dreamville maestro bestowed upon him the title of “2Pac reincarnated.”

“I’m not entirely sure how the stars aligned, but somehow, I found myself in the studio with J. Cole and a crew of towering basketball players,” he revealed with a grin. “Before diving into the music, we engaged in deep conversations, talking about life and the real stuff.

“For someone like me, I’m not accustomed to extensive dialogues with people outside my inner circle. I tend to keep it short. But that day was different.

“As we were about to commence, he casually remarked, ‘Bruh, this guy’s like 2Pac reincarnated from Africa.’ I glanced around, wondering who he was referring to, only to realize he was talking about me. He said, ‘Yeah, this guy is like Tupac reincarnated in Africa.’ I thought, ‘Wow, that’s profound.’ Alright, let’s create some music.”

The track “Thanks” marks the debut collaboration between Burna Boy and J. Cole. During a recent interview with Apple Music, Burna Boy didn’t hold back his admiration for J. Cole, referring to him as a “legend.”

Fans of the dynamic duo will be thrilled to know that J. Cole and Burna Boy have yet another collaboration in the works. During a chat on Complex’s 360 with Speedy, Burna revealed that they created something entirely distinct from “Thanks” during their studio session.

The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards’ huge night for Jack Harlow upset both musicians and viewers. Viewers responded on social media after Beyonce and BTS lost out to the song “Song of the Summer,” which received four moon men and was the crowd favorite. “A white man winning over Beyonce, BTS and Doja, VMAs be serious,” a fan wrote. Not just spectators were outraged by Harlow’s victories. The “First Class” rapper’s colleagues in the business appear to also feel betrayed by his Sunday winning run.

Burna Boy, who often steers clear of media controversy, posted a video on TikTok of a crowd screaming his hit song “Last Last” loudly. In addition to the heartfelt video, it was the Nigerian singer’s remark that led some viewers to believe he was disparaging Harlow. “Wow so many heartbroken people #LastLast #Songofthesummer,” he said, adding, “When #MTV Says Jack Harlow Had The Song of the Summer [yawn emoji].”

Burna Boy’s single “Last Last” is his first to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 as a solo or lead artist. It’s also his highest-charting song, spending the eighth week at the top of the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs chart. The colorful tune, which samples Toni Braxton’s 2000 hit “He Wasn’t Man Enough,” has held the top spot on the US Afrobeats chart for the longest amount of time. Fans appear to support Burna Boy’s opinions. One respondent shared, “Never have I got in da car and said yo throw on that new Jack Harlow but I did say put on last last I need debo and shaloy or w/e he say.”
