Ab-Soul Discusses How Kendrick Lamars Departure From TDE Affects Him and His Career

Ab-Soul Discusses How Kendrick Lamars Departure From TDE Affects Him and His Career

Kendrick Lamar leaving the TDE label draws a response from Ab-Soul.

Ab-Soul sat down for a fresh interview with XXL Magazine as he continued the promotion for his comeback album “HERBERT.” The rapper was questioned about a variety of topics, including the time Kendrick Lamar stated that his album “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers” would be his last on the TDE label.

“Well, you know, I always romanticized the idea of us staying together forever,” he said on how Kendrick Lamar leaving the label impacted his course. “And I say this as Kendrick obviously being my brother, you know? I like how he put it. There’s beauty in completion. And you know, I feel like he reached his space where he felt like he needed to embark on something else. I support him in whatever. He’s incredible. He’s an incredible artist and I support him. I’m behind it 100 percent.”

“Did you guys have a conversation about him leaving or can you share any aspect of how that might’ve gone?” he was asked. I feel like that kind of thing, it just kind of went unsaid just for the sake of making sure we remember the brotherhood first. That we’re brothers first and, you know? He’s still somebody that I can call on and vice versa. And that’s the most important thing versus us tryna get to the bottom of why he would start his own label or whatever you have. our brotherhood is more important to me personally.”

The LA rapper also addressed the issue of whether poetry is a lost art.

“A lost art? I won’t say that. Lost isn’t the word,” he said. “It’s still a lot of us getting down, getting busy in terms of lyricism in that respect. I’m just here to restore the feeling. To keep that, the hip-hop spirit. The essence of it. The root of it. I feel like that’s mine, one of my purposes, for sure. To remember how it started. Hip-hop is amongst the youngest of genres. I feel an obligation to keep paying homage to the pioneers before me and keeping that vein of hip-hop.”

Aries Spears Calls This Generation Of Hip Hop “Garbage” & “Dumpster Juice”

Aries Spears, who is obviously not a lover of modern music, is one person who has definitely been offended by the progression of hip hop.

Hip Hop has been criticized over the years by many generations. The current condition of rap culture has come under fire from “Old Heads” who think that this generation of musicians isn’t carrying the lyrical torch of their forefathers, frequently sparking discussions on social media regarding which era predominates.

Spears was questioned about this generation of Hip Hop in an interview.”Garbage!” said the comedian. “I mean, other than Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole…garbage.”

“If you took the emcees of my era, from the ’90s, I named some of ’em—Biggie, Jay-Z, Nas, DMX, Jadakiss, Big Pun, Big L—you put them up against this young generation of rappers, you would literally have the ’92 Dream Team versus the Special Olympics. Spottemgottem, f*ckin’ Lil Nas X, f*ckin’…who else are the rest of these n*ggas? The Island Boys, Tekashi 6ix9ine, all them n*ggas look like Tim Burton Batman villains.”

“F*ck outta here! Them n*ggas is garbage! Dumpster juice, n*gga!”

In other news, Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears have both been named in a lawsuit. The two are accused of assaulting and grooming two siblings as they were being filmed for sexually explicit acts. Except for his legal team’s denial of the allegations, Haddish has replied to the claims while Spears has kept mute.

Kendrick Lamar Explains How He Wants His Legacy To Be Remembered

The rapper had a rare interview with 12-year-old reporter Jazzy World just after hitting the Rolling Loud stage in Miami on Sunday. A video of the rapper talking about the widely shared image of a security guard sobbing while he sang “Love” surfaced earlier this week. K. Dot expressed his thankfulness for his ability to move people’s emotions through music.

This week, the complete interview with the Mr. Morale rapper was made available online, and in it, Kendrick discussed how he wants to be remembered in the long run. Kendrick expresses the same optimism for his music’s ability to foster human connection in his response to the security guard.

“Really just an impact to inspire people and always showing them that the duality of life is not such a bad thing,” he stated. “We go through so many volatile situations where we don’t really know how to connect or communicate how we feel so through my music, I wanna make sure that’s the legacy; showing people how to communicate and it’s okay, you know, if you’re not perfect. It’s about accepting the beauty of imperfection.”

He continued, “Do you, be yourself and make sure you love being yourself. It’s gonna be roadblocks, there’s gonna be tribulations but always remember this is a life experience. Accept the experience, appreciate the experience and learn how to move on from things that don’t serve you well. And find your journey, respect your journey and love it.”

With the highest sales week of the year, the album is already on track to debut at the top of the Billboard 200. The album plays in the manner of a therapy session. While conceptual, there are some big records that will undoubtedly be getting played for months.

K.Dot and his label officially chose the first song from the album this week, and it may cause even more controversy for the Compton rapper. “Silent Hill” feat. Kodak Black will be on radio rotation on May 31st, according to Hip-Hop-N-More. The song has already gained traction on YouTube and TikTok.
