The Media Treat Women Differently Than Men – Paris Hilton
After Paris Hilton (40) previously announced that the pregnancy rumors that were going around about her were not true, she went on to discuss the role the media play when it comes to reporting about women in an interview with ‘Variety’. The socialite says she is happy to tell her own story, because she has become used to the media ‘twisting everything’.
“The standard has always been different and that is not right”
“When I started in the entertainment industry I had no control over anything. I immediately noticed that men were treated differently by women, I was always ‘attacked’ about the boyfriends I had while male colleagues were applauded when they had a new girlfriend. The standard has just always been different and that’s not right,” said Paris.
Paris found it “extremely painful” to read false pregnancy rumors about herself and then receive hundreds of messages from friends and fans about it. “It is beyond words that people send messages like this into the world without thinking about what it can do to someone. Especially when it comes to something as personal as a pregnancy. After all these years I really don’t look up anymore a gossip about myself here and there, but this is going too far. My mother Kathy has always said not to go into stories, but this time I won’t shut up.”
She continues: “So many articles about women in the industry have been written that are not true, which makes me extra happy with my podcast where I can tell my truth. Social media has also strengthened the reach of women, because they themselves are word instead of tabloids. So change is happening, but we’re not there yet. The media really needs to take a different approach to women and treat them the way they treat men.”
