Ensuring Fair Compensation: New Illinois Bill Aims to Share Social Media Revenue with Kids.
In a groundbreaking move that could reshape the landscape of child social media stardom, parents capitalizing on their kids’ viral videos might soon find themselves legally obligated to share the generated revenue with their own offspring.
This week, the Illinois Senate Labor Committee achieved unanimous approval for a trailblazing bill that promises to grant children an inherent entitlement to a portion of the earnings, provided the videos adhere to specific qualifying standards.
During a press conference on Wednesday, State Senator Linda Holmes, a co-sponsor of the bill hailing from Aurora, emphasized, “Gaining profits at the expense of a child’s efforts is fundamentally unjust. We’re mirroring the safeguards in place for young television celebrities. Our priority is guaranteeing that youngsters receive fair recompense for their contributions.”
