Ghostface Killah is Set to Release New Album Through Stem Player

Ghostface Killah is Set to Release New Album Through Stem Player

According to Ghostface Killah’s announcement, the $240 Stem player will be the only place to purchase his upcoming studio album.

A new song named “6 Minutes” is available to stream for free on Stem’s website for the next 36 hours, according to a post on Instagram from the firm behind the Stem Player, which also stated that the Wu-Tang Clan legend’s new project will launch exclusively via the cutting-edge device.

“GHOSTFACE STEM. NEW GHOSTFACE KILLAH ALBUM EXCLUSIVELY LAUNCHING ON GHOSTFACE STEMPLAYER BLACK & CREAM NOW LIVE ON STEM.TECH,” the post read. “GHOSTFACE KILLAH ‘6 MINUTES’ SONG IS ALSO AVAILABLE TO STREAM FOR FREE EXCLUSIVELY ON STEM.TECH FOR 36 HOURS.”

Ghostface’s upcoming album is anticipated to be released in February along with the new Stem Player, though the title, tracklist, or any prospective features have not yet been announced. A cream version with “five exclusive tracks” will cost $240, while a black version with “10 exclusive tracks” will cost $360. The album will be offered on two Ghostface Killah Stem Players.

Through Stem’s website, fans can also also purchase a $20 monthly subscription that gives them access to the album as well as special videos, a concert, and meet-ups with Ghostface Killah.

The action is reminiscent of Kanye West’s Donda 2, which was released in February 2022 just through the Stem Player.

Ye reportedly made over $2 million before the record even came out thanks to the decision. After Kanye’s antisemitic outburst, the tech business that had been backing the player, Kano, removed him.

In a Fast Company interview, Ghostface went into further detail about his involvement with the media player and stated that he saw this as a chance to “cut through” the crowded streaming industry. He also valued the personal ways that the Stem Player enables fans to relate to him.

“This is music for these people who care about me,” the Supreme Clientele MC said. “I’m not saying people don’t care about me, but when you’ve got dedicated Ghostface or Wu-Tang fans—these are hardcore fans for life.”

Ghostface said he’ll add and cut each track to the player over time, and that he plans to use the company’s new $1,000 Stem Projector to add a “Ghostface channel” where fans can obtain exclusive content, such as Ask Me Anything’s (AMAs) and opportunities for in-person meetups. He also said he’s planning a music festival alongside the company.

“This is what I’m getting you. Every few months, take that!” he added. “It’s nothing for me to go in the studio and cook something up and just give it to [fans]. I don’t care about that. If you want it, you’re going to go get it.”

Ghostface Killahs, his 2019 album, was the last full-length solo album to be released. In 2021, in recognition of the tape’s 25th anniversary, he also reissued his landmark project Ironman from 1996.
