Twitch Streamer Kai Cenat Faces Charges After Chaos at NYC Giveaway in Union Square Park
Popular Twitch and YouTube personality, Kai Cenat, finds himself in law enforcement custody after a chaotic giveaway event at New York City’s Union Square Park. Authorities state that the event was not permitted or sanctioned by the city.
The social media influencer is now facing charges for inciting a riot and unlawful assembly during the event. Chief Jeffrey Maddrey of the New York City Police confirms that at least 65 people were arrested, including 30 juveniles, for their involvement in the chaos.
During the giveaway, thousands of enthusiastic young people gathered at the park, eagerly waiting for their chance to win video game consoles, PCs, keyboards, gaming chairs, headphones, and other exciting items. However, the situation quickly escalated, resulting in the throwing of bottles, fireworks, rocks, and paint cans taken from a construction site, leading to injuries to three officers, one with a broken hand.
Officers reported being attacked, and the scene was described as chaotic, with young people experiencing panic and anxiety attacks. Chief Maddrey also mentions that Kai Cenat himself had to be removed from the area for his safety.
The giveaway was initially promoted on Cenat’s Twitch channel, where it garnered over 2 million views. The event was scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., but crowds had already filled the park by 3 p.m.
Despite the chaos, Cenat’s popularity remains strong, but the consequences of the event are still unfolding as he awaits potential charges related to the Union Square Park incident.
