Kanye West Postponed His Yeezy-Gap Collaboration Following The School Shooting In Texas
Kanye West has postponed the debut of his Yeezy and Gap collaboration in honor of the victims of the tragic school massacre in Uvalde, Texas. The Yeezy-Gap website now displays a message from the companies expressing their decision.
“In light of the tragedy in Uvalde, Texas, we are postponing the Yeezy Gap Engineered By Balenciaga launch until Friday, May 27. As we pause, our hearts go out to the families and communities impacted,” according to the statement.
On Tuesday, an 18-year-old shooter opened fire at Robb Elementary School, killing 19 students and two adults. President Joe Biden, speaking at a press conference later that evening, urged “every parent, every citizen of this country” to support “commonsense gun laws.”
“What happened in Uvalde is a horrific tragedy that cannot be tolerated in the state of Texas,” Governor Greg Abbott said after the shooting. “There is swift action being taken by local law enforcement.”
The incident came barely one week after ten people were killed in a supermarket attack in Buffalo, New York.
Demna Gvasalia of Balenciaga is also working on the collection. Fans can expect to see denim jackets, jeans, t-shirts, high-top boots, gloves, masks, and hoodies in the second Yeezy-Gap capsule.
