Doja Cat shared images from her upcoming Elle Magazine cover. She was wearing stunning pieces from Maison Valentino, Christopher Kane, and Giambattista Valli, to mention a few. In addition to the breathtaking image, the California native conducted an interview in which she claimed that her new album will have more rap music than any other genre.

“I’ve rapped since the beginning, and I really couldn’t even sing that well to begin with – I got a lot better,” she said. “I use my voice as a tool to create these worlds, and it’s fine if people think that I can’t rap.”

The musical genre of Doja has long been a source of controversy. Her Planet Her album received a nomination for Album of the Year and Pop Vocal Album at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards. But it didn’t win either, its lead song “Kiss Me More” starring SZA won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, as well as Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

Summer Walker’s boyfriend recently spoke out, claiming that while Doja is a talented artist, she belongs in another genre, and that she is ready to lean more into her rap artist side.

The “Ain’t Shit” singer had to withdraw from The Weeknd’s stadium tour due to tonsil surgery.

Doja Cat Talks About Being A Rapper And Nicki Minaj’s Influence

Doja Cat claims that winning a Grammy in the rap category would mean “everything” to her. Despite hip hop purists debating whether she is a rapper. Earlier this year, her collaboration with Saweetie, “Best Friend,” got nominated for a Grammy for Best Rap Song.

“The only person who should be rating hip-hop is an OG or somebody who is respected in hip-hop,”  Doja requested a fresh profile from Elle.

She revealed why she enjoys rap music: “When I was little, that’s kind of all I listened to,” she named Busta Rhymes and Lauryn Hill. “I’ve rapped since the beginning, and I really couldn’t even sing that well to begin with I got a lot better. I use my voice as a tool to create these worlds, and it’s fine if people think that I can’t rap.”

Remy Ma is one well-known figure that claims Doja isn’t a rapper. In a March appearance on Drink Champs, the legendary rapper commended Doja for making “dope recordings,” but claimed her music shouldn’t be  among rap music.

Doja later recognized Nicki Minaj as one of her key influences in the interview. They previously worked together on a remix of Doja’s “Say So.”

“I think her as a businesswoman really inspired me,” According to Doja. “The way Nicki can carry herself felt almost alien to me, because I was kind of a little runty kid, trapped in her room, just watching YouTube videos. And back then I was like, ‘Damn, that’s dope.’”

Doja Cat Not quiting again, apologizes to fans

Doja Cat Apologizes and Reconsiders Her Retirement Plans: “I Owe A Lot To People”

Doja Cat walked back her remarks about wanting to stop making music, telling her fans that she owes them “a lot” but has been taking instead.

Doja Cat stunned her admirers by announcing her retirement from music after postponing her gig at a festival due to an earlier performance she disapproved of.

A source(The Planet Her) stated that she would not be retiring and thanked everyone for their support, noting that she owed “a lot” to herself and her fans.

Doja Cat Apologizes To Her Fans

“I owe myself a lot too,” she continued. “I owe myself the opportunity to open up and be kind to others,” she continues, “and I owe myself the death of my worries that prevent me from expanding my heart.” I didn’t go to the next one. I’m leaving the country to do something I can do anywhere else. In some ways, that would be worthless.”

Doja Cat went on to claim that she went there in search of new experiences. “I came, and I didn’t provide enough.” Because I’ve discovered I’ve been taking a lot, I need to offer more. “I’m taking practically everyone who’s reading this.”

Doja later responded to a fan who claimed she was harsh on herself. Doja Cat responded, “not discrediting myself,” Doja Cat replied. “I work my ass off. I know that. It’s tiring but I’m not suffering because of people like you. My suffering comes from myself. Not everybody else. It’s my problem but you guys always help me solve it when you support me the way you’ve been.”

The apology came in reaction to a flurry of tweets from Friday (Mar. 25), in which fans expressed their dissatisfaction with her canceled performance in Paraguay.

“I don’t give a f**k anymore i f**k quit i can’t wait to f**k disappear and i don’t need you to believe in me anymore,” Doja Cat tweeted. “Everything is dead to me, music is dead, and i’m a f**k fool for ever thinking i was made for this this is a f**k nightmare unfollow me.”

Remy Ma

Remy Ma Says Doja Cat Isn’t A Rapper

Remy Ma believes Doja Cat isn’t a rapper. Ebro Darden recently commented that Doja Cat has excellent rapping skills, although Ma does not agree with that notion. While having an interview with N.O.R.E and Champs’ DJ, the Terror squad quickly reveal the place of N.O.R.E when he pointed to the “Say So” artist as a “rapper.”

“I don’t think she’s a rapper,” She interjected. “Let’s be clear with that. They put her in the rapper category, I don’t think she’s a rapper. But she makes dope records, and I think she’s dope.”

Many people have reacted to her comments with various feedbacks on Twitter. Some were surprised at her comment while some others agreed with her.

“Is Doja Cat a rapper?” one person wrote. “mmm nah wouldn’t necessarily say that however, she does rap a lot of verses over pop beats. Sooo gotta agree with Remy Ma. She def dope af tho,” while another said, “Y’all have to understand where Remy Ma is coming from. She grew up in a time where artists were rapping, not singing. Doja Cat’s music is more pop than rap, and that’s a fact.”

Some were even angry over the interview, with one writing, “Remy Ma saying Doja Cat isnt a rapper just pissed me off. Bitch are YOU a rapper? What was the last song YOU released?”
