Benny remarked,

“A lot of things that he do that he don’t have to do,” Benny The Butcher explained. “I know we can say that about a lot of people but it seems to me like he take interest in things like that, and that’s the difference. He realizes his responsibility of him being the top guy. And make no mistake, he’s the top guy. Cole is the top f*ing guy in this st right now, you know what I’m saying? And for him to understand there’s a responsibility just says a lot about him, ’cause a lot of these dudes don’t, man.”

The Buffalo, New York native also chimed in on J. Cole’s remarkable rap skills, praising his performance on “Johnny P’s Caddy” as one of his all-time best. The discussion included some light-hearted banter about Lil Yachty’s song, but “Johnny P’s Caddy” remains a standout.

J. Cole’s regrets His First No. 1 Single Being a “Drake Alley-Oop”

In a candid moment on Lil Yachty’s A Safe Place podcast, J. Cole admitted to having mixed feelings about his first-ever No. 1 single, “First Person Shooter.” While he is grateful for the achievement, part of him wishes it didn’t come as an “alley-oop” from his good friend Drake. He expressed that if it had peaked at No. 2, it wouldn’t have bothered him, but achieving No. 1 with a Drake collaboration brought mixed emotions.

Despite his friendly competition with Drake, J. Cole stated, “I’d almost feel better not having my first No. 1 being off a Drake alley-oop. I love Drake, and I love that I’m a part of that moment with him like Michael Jackson.”

J. Cole gave credit to the fact that both his and Drake’s fans still purchase singles, contributing to “First Person Shooter” topping the Hot 100. The track sold 4,000 digital copies in its first week and garnered 42.2 million streams and 4.3 million radio airplay audience impressions.

This achievement also tied Drake with Michael Jackson, both having 13 No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. J. Cole had previously come close to the top spot with “My Life” in 2021 and “All My Life,” his collaboration with Lil Durk earlier this year, both peaking at No. 2.

While fans may debate who had the best verse on the track, J. Cole gave a shoutout to Ice Cube’s BIG3 basketball league in “First Person Shooter,” which garnered appreciation from the N.W.A legend.

Cole, known for his razor-sharp wit, didn’t take this lightly. He hit back, suggesting that the rapper who initially reached out to him had suddenly become intimidated.

“Studio steppers movin’ extra on songs, fakin’ rep / Only breakin’ bad in the lab, thought y’all was makin’ meth / Nggas makin’ threats and I laugh, that’s ’cause you ain’t a threat / Don’t ask how I feel ’bout no rappers, sht, they okay, I guess / Incoming call, press the button, the one that say accept / He FaceTime to ask for a feature and saw the face of death / I’m on your song, your streams goin’ up, not quite the Drake effect / But don’t complain, bitch, take what you get and cut the label check,” Cole spat in his response.

J. Cole Praises Burna Boy as the ‘2Pac Reincarnated’

J. Cole recently placed Burna Boy in the same league as the legendary 2Pac. Burna Boy, who dropped his latest album, “I Told Them…” just last month, joined forces with Cole on the track “Thanks.”

In an enlightening chat on the Rap Radar Podcast, the Nigerian sensation shed light on his studio session with J. Cole, where the Dreamville maestro bestowed upon him the title of “2Pac reincarnated.”

“I’m not entirely sure how the stars aligned, but somehow, I found myself in the studio with J. Cole and a crew of towering basketball players,” he revealed with a grin. “Before diving into the music, we engaged in deep conversations, talking about life and the real stuff.

“For someone like me, I’m not accustomed to extensive dialogues with people outside my inner circle. I tend to keep it short. But that day was different.

“As we were about to commence, he casually remarked, ‘Bruh, this guy’s like 2Pac reincarnated from Africa.’ I glanced around, wondering who he was referring to, only to realize he was talking about me. He said, ‘Yeah, this guy is like Tupac reincarnated in Africa.’ I thought, ‘Wow, that’s profound.’ Alright, let’s create some music.”

The track “Thanks” marks the debut collaboration between Burna Boy and J. Cole. During a recent interview with Apple Music, Burna Boy didn’t hold back his admiration for J. Cole, referring to him as a “legend.”

Fans of the dynamic duo will be thrilled to know that J. Cole and Burna Boy have yet another collaboration in the works. During a chat on Complex’s 360 with Speedy, Burna revealed that they created something entirely distinct from “Thanks” during their studio session.

Lil Durk Faces Backlash for Expressing Disinterest in Lyrical Rappers THEURBANSPOTLIGHT.COM

Lil Durk Faces Backlash for Expressing Disinterest in “Lyrical” Rappers

Lil Durk recently sparked controversy on social media after revealing that he isn’t particularly fond of “lyrical” rappers.

During an interview with Spotify’s RapCaviar, while discussing his new single “All My Life” featuring J. Cole, Durkio made the comments that garnered attention. Despite acknowledging Cole’s exceptional guest verse on the track, he stated, “You know I ain’t super big on lyricist-type rappers. Cole was one of them ones that, like, him and [JAY-Z], you gotta play them 50 times to catch what they’re saying.”

Although Durk has collaborated with acclaimed lyricists such as Nas, Big Sean, J.I.D, Cordae, Logic, Chance The Rapper, and Talib Kweli in the past, fans swiftly criticized his stance on lyrics. One Instagram comment expressed disappointment, stating, “[sad] day when mfs don’t listen to actual lyrics.”

Despite the controversy, Lil Durk later emphasized his appreciation for J. Cole’s verse on “All My Life” in a separate interview with Complex, acknowledging that Cole “smoked” him on the song. Durk also discussed the track’s creation, highlighting his moody state and how he believed J. Cole was the perfect fit for the collaboration.

“All My Life,” produced by pop hitmaker Dr. Luke, serves as the lead single from Lil Durk’s upcoming album, Almost Healed, slated for release on May 26. The song marks Durk and Cole’s first joint effort, and Durk expressed his excitement about the collaboration and the positive vibes surrounding it.

While Lil Durk’s comments on lyrical rappers sparked backlash, his upcoming album and collaboration with J. Cole continue to generate anticipation among fans.

You just know it’s just like a feeling inside. See I’m in love.”

Lil Durk recently teases J. Cole collab and warns oops to stop dissing him. While he was performing at Dreamville, the rapper said, “I was gon’ do it anyway. I wanted to do it anyway getting to the festival world, but me and J. Cole cooking up something too. We just vibing, working, you know what I’m saying?”

J. Cole’s Dreamville Festival To Return In Spring 2023

Dreamville Festival to Raleigh, North Carolina, on April 1 and 2, 2023, was confirmed by J. Cole and his Dreamville crew on Wednesday.

After a three-year break, the festival returned this year and will once more fill Raleigh’s Dorothea Dix Park with musical performances by Cole’s favorite musicians and collaborators. 80,000 people from all over the world attended the event in the spring, which featured a wide range of activities, regional merchants, food trucks, and artists from the broader Triangle area. Notably, the event this year had a positive economic impact on Raleigh and Wake County over USD 6.7 million.

Dreamville Festival wants to keep growing and building off the success of the expanded two-day event this year. Our team is excited to reunite with our Dreamville family from around the world next spring,” said Dreamville Festival President Adam Roy in a statement. “Day ones, JID fans, Ari fans, music fans, everyone is welcome. Consider this your personal invite. Come through, you won’t want to miss Dreamville 2023.”

The “No Role Modelz” rapper’s Dreamville Festival made its premiere in 2018 with a roster that included SZA, Big Sean, Young Thug, and numerous more renowned performers. The festival’s debut edition did not take place until April of the following year because Hurricane Florence forced the cancellation of the opening event. The third iteration of the Dreamville Festival will take place in 2023 because the COVID epidemic also forced the cancellation of the festival’s 2020 edition.

NO I.D. Recalls J. Cole Turn Down On Nas, Big Sean & Rick Ross Beats

NO I.D. Recalls J. Cole Turn Down On Nas, Big Sean & Rick Ross Beats

Cole has had the honor of working with some of Hip Hop’s top producers throughout his career but the Dreamville boss has passed up a fair number of hot beats from No I.D.

The Grammy-winning beatmaker recently discussed Cole’s practice of sharing his instrumentals on Spotify’s RapCaviar Podcast, admitting it even turned into a “running joke” between the two of them.

“I used to have a running joke with J. Cole like, ‘Yo, I gotta do a session with you so I can do a beat that you’re not going to use, that I can get off,’” he told host Brandon “Jinx” Jenkins with a smile.

No I.D. continued as he mentioned how during a two-week period in the studio, J. Cole rejected the beats for Big Sean’s “Control” and “My Last,” Nas’ “Stay,” and Rick Ross‘ “Tears of Joy.”

N“It was like a week or two we was working in the beginning,” he continued. “For him, I did the ‘Control’ beat, Nas ‘Stay,’ ‘Tears of Joy,’ ‘My Last’ and something else. And it was just like, ‘Nah, that ain’t it.”

Cole did end up working with No I.D. on “Never Told” from his 2011 debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story despite rejecting a number of his beats. The 2009 recording of “Stay” by Cole later appeared on his 2013 EP Truly Yours.
