The renowned comedian is recounting his side of what happened after being slapped by Will Smith in front of millions of viewers in the most amusing way he knows how: through comedy. Rock revealed that the Academy had offered him the chance to host the 2023 Oscars, which he had turned down, during a performance on Sunday in Phoenix, Arizona. Rock also made jokes about the infamous slap that was heard around the globe.

When breaking the news, the celebrity compared his hosting of the Academy Awards following the Will Smith incident to the 1994 killing of Nicole Brown Simpson. Rock made light of the idea, joking that returning to the spot where he was struck would be like Nicole Brown Simpson opting “to go back to the restaurant” where she left her glasses before being killed. The comedian continued by making fun of Will Smith’s height advantage above him and telling the audience, “He’s bigger than me. The state of Nevada would not sanction a fight between me and Will Smith.”

Smith, who was barred from the Academy Awards for ten years, finally spoke out about the incident last month in a video apology. “I was fogged out by that point,” he shared. “It’s all fuzzy. I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk and when he is, he will reach out. So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”

Chris Rock hasn’t responded to the Oscar-winning actor’s apology, although he did make light of the slap when the footage surfaced. Rock cracked a joke at a performance in Atlanta last month, saying, “Anyone who believes words hurt has never been struck in the face.

After slapping Chris Rock on the Oscars stage, it has been a while since Will Smith spoke to the public. He has also made a few statements about the matter, despite not always being visible in public. In contrast, he made a fresh apology video and posted it to YouTube this morning. In it, he professed his sorrow for the infamous slap and apologized to Chris Rock and his family. He provided an explanation for why Rock wasn’t apologized to in his video.

“I was fogged out by that point,” he stated. “It’s all fuzzy. I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk and when he is, he will reach out. So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”

Smith also expressed regret to Tony Rock, who has been quite outspoken about the incident, and Chris Rock’s mother, who recently spoke out about how she felt about the slap. Will Smith clarified that he and Tony had a close bond that he now characterized as “irreparable.”

“There is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave in that moment,” he added. “There’s no part of me that thinks that’s the optimal way to handle a feeling of disrespect or insults.”

During the debut of her famous Facebook series Red Table Talk on Wednesday (June 1), Jada discussed the ordeal.

“This is a really important ‘Red Table Talk’ on alopecia,” Jada said. “Considering what I’ve been through with my own health and what happened at the Oscars, thousands have reached out to me with their stories. I’m using this moment to give our alopecia family an opportunity to talk about what it’s like to have this condition and to inform people about what alopecia actually is.”

She added, “Now about Oscar night, my deepest hope is that these two intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out and reconcile. The state of the world today, we need them both. And we all actually need one another more than ever. Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years, and that’s keep figuring out this thing called life together. Thank you for listening.”

Will Smith assaulted comedian Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards when he referred to Jada as “G.I. Jane,” comparing her shaved head to the Demi Moore character from the 1997 film. However, after the slap, Jada’s husband requested Chris rock take “his wife’s name” out of his “fucking mouth.” Jada had been open about her struggle with alopecia, and the joke enraged him.

Will Smith is back to his old tricks — sort of. Many of Smith’s ongoing film projects have been on hold (for the time being) as a result of “The Slap” at the 94th Academy Awards earlier this year. The Aladdin actor struck comedian Chris Rock across the face for cracking a joke at his wife’s expense on stage, leaving Smith with plenty of time to travel.

According to TMZ, the father of three arrived at a private airport in Mumbai, India, earlier this week. And it appears that paparazzi from across the world were aware of his arrival.

Fans cheered Smith’s arrival at his hotel. As he reached his accommodations, the 53-year-old appeared to be in good spirits, waving and smiling at photographers and other onlookers.

Will Smith Seen In India

It’s unclear whether the memoirist is in Mumbai for business or for pleasure at this moment. He appears in photos with what appears to be a pilot, dressed in grey and white sporting gear and wearing a braided necklace.

This isn’t Smith’s first journey to India; in 2020, he met with Sadhguru, a spiritual leader, and said, “Sadhguru is in town. I have been following him for a while. He wrote a wonderful book called Inner Engineering. I want my family to meet spiritual people, to start interacting with people who are not hooked on the material world.”

It’s likely that the Gemini Man star is on a spiritual journey as a result of his personal turmoil.

Trevor Noah mocked the Academy’s decision to exclude Will Smith from the Oscars on Monday, joking that the Emmys should treat him the same way.

On Monday, Noah made his triumphant return to The Daily Show studio in Manhattan, performing in front of a live audience for the first time in over two years.

Smith’s onstage slap of Chris Rock at this year’s Oscars — a moment he initially alluded to while hosting the Grammys last week — was the host’s way of celebrating his return home.

Trevor Noah Comments on Smith’s Ban

“When I first read the headline, I thought this was the worst punishment ever. I was like, ’10 years? The Oscars, you’re ridiculous!’ ” Noah said on Monday. “But then I got into the details and I realized that he gets to keep his Oscar and he can still win Oscars, even though he’s banned.”

“This isn’t a punishment — this is a favor,” Noah continued.

“Will Smith doesn’t have to go to the ceremony: he doesn’t have to get dressed up. He doesn’t have to sit through a bunch of boring awards that he doesn’t care about”.  Additionally, he said, “He (Smith) doesn’t have to pretend to be happy when he loses. I wish I could get banned from the Emmys.”

Smith Shouldn’t Have Been Banned, According to Noah

“Honestly, I don’t think they should have banned Will Smith at all. I’ll be honest,” he added. “I actually think they should have hired Will Smith to replace the wrap it up music that they play at award shows. Yeah. Do you know how quickly winners will finish their speeches when they see Will Smith watching them from the side of the stage?”

Jada Pinkett Smith took to the red carpet for the first time since the 94th Academy Awards. The 50-year-old wore a gold gown at the grand opening of the Rhimes Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles on Saturday, where she was supporting Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes.

Pinkett Smith was radiant in a gold haltered gown as she stood with Debbie Allen and Shonda Rhimes. The ladies appeared alongside Samuel L. Jackson and his wife, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, in another photo. Pinkett Smith did not do interviews as she walked the red carpet. Billy Porter of Pose, on the other hand, greeted her.

As Jada walked up the carpet and into the event, the host of Red Table Talk flashed a peace sign. Debbie Allen Dance Academy will be housed at the new location. The theater will also have a studio named after Pinkett Smith and her husband, Will Smith, according to Broadway World.

Pinkett Smith’s outing on Saturday is her first public appearance since her husband, Will Smith, smacked Chris Rock at the Oscars. Smith smacked Rock after the comedian made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett shaved Smith’s head, on March 27. The actress has been candid about her alopecia difficulties.

Will Smith Banned For 10 Years By Academy

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said on Friday that Smith will be barred from attending any Academy events for a decade, in person or online.

Academy president David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson wrote to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences family in a letter obtained by ET, saying that the Board of Governors in a Friday meeting concluded that “for a period of 10 years from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events” the Academy Awards are included.
