Cordae Demands Young Thug And Gunna’s Release Following YSL’s Indictment
Cordae is campaigning for the release of Young Thug, Gunna, and the other YSL members named in the group’s enormous 56-count indictment issued last month. On Wednesday, the rapper from From a Birds Eye View tweeted his support for YSL.
“Free the Whole YSL Family! They showed me more genuine love than damn near anybody!” In his first post, Cordae wrote.
He then added: “Protect Black Art! Also Using Lyrics against someone on trial is nuts! It’s a form of self expression that shouldn’t be used in a literal sense especially in a court of law!!!”
On May 9th, YSL’s 28 members were charged. Following a raid on Thug’s home, he was charged with conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) and participation in criminal street gang activity. Gunna is charged with one count of RICO conspiracy.
Several lyrics from songs by the musicians were part of evidence in the indictment. Several songs from YSL’s Slime Language 2 compilation album, due out in 2020, were among them, including “Take it to Trial,” “Ski,” and “Slatty.”
Cordae isn’t the only one who thinks rap lyrics should be used as proof. Bobby Shmurda supported a bill in New York that would limit their use in court.
