TakeOff was remembered at a vigil organized by his closest friends and family. On Friday, November 4, numerous videos of a private candle-lighting ceremony started to go viral online. The mourners for the late Migos rapper TakeOff huddle up next to one another in the brief video as they chant his name and send balloons bearing his stage name aloft into the sky.
The attendees also shouted the phrase “Nawfside,” which TakeOff and several of his fellow Atlanta rap peers used to pay homage to their upbringing on the city’s Northside, along with the words “R.I.P. [Rest in peace] TakeOff.”
Since the news of Takeoff’s passing broke on Tuesday, condolences have been pouring in from all corners of the hip-hop scene (November 1). Authorities claim they were alerted to a fight at the 810 Billiards and Bowling in downtown Houston at around 2:30 a.m.
When an altercation started and shots were fired, Takeoff, whose real name was Kirshnik Khari Ball, was present with a group of spectators that also included his uncle and Migos bandmate Quavo.
According to the Houston Coroner’s Office’s autopsy report, the 28-year-old died as a result of head and torso gunshot wounds. Quavo’s assistant Joshua “Wash” Washington was one of the two other injured people who were taken to a nearby hospital.
